Platform Fee Policy

Version 1.1Effective: July 14, 2026Last updated: July 14, 2026

This policy describes the BoxNear platform fee and how it interacts with Stripe's application fee mechanism.

1. The fee

BoxNear charges sellers a platform fee of 30% of the gross of each paid transaction (equivalent to 3000 basis points). Free listings incur no fee.

2. How it is collected

For Stripe transactions, the fee is set as Stripe's application_fee_amount on a destination charge. The buyer's payment is captured on the platform's Stripe account and the seller's net (gross − 30%) is transferred automatically to the seller's connected Stripe account.

3. Worked example

  • Listing price: $10.00 per box, quantity 3 → gross $30.00.
  • Platform fee: 30% of $30.00 = $9.00.
  • Seller net (before Stripe processing fees): $21.00, transferred to the seller's Stripe balance.

4. Stripe processing fees

Stripe's own card-processing fees are separate from the BoxNear platform fee. They are governed by the platform's agreement with Stripe and typically deduct from Stripe's balance settlement, not from the seller's application-fee split.

5. Refunds

When a refund is issued, the platform fee is proportionally reversed and the corresponding transfer to the seller is reversed. Sellers do not keep the platform fee on refunded amounts. See Refund Policy.

6. Free listings

Free listings do not go through the charge flow and no platform fee is deducted. BoxNear may still take reasonable steps to prevent abuse of the free reservation flow.

7. Changes to the fee

BoxNear may adjust the platform fee going forward. Changes will be communicated by updating the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, an in-app notice.
