Marketplace Agreement

Version 1.1Effective: July 14, 2026Last updated: July 14, 2026

This document explains BoxNear's role as a marketplace venue and the relationship between buyers, sellers, and BoxNear.

1. BoxNear is a venue

BoxNear provides an online marketplace where sellers list items for local pickup and buyers reserve them. BoxNear is not a party to the sale between a buyer and a seller. The seller is the merchant of record for the goods; BoxNear facilitates discovery, reservations, payments, pickup verification, and dispute intake.

2. What BoxNear does

  • Publishes seller listings on the map and in search results.
  • Accepts reservations and processes payments through Stripe Connect.
  • Generates a six-digit pickup code that verifies the buyer at the seller's location.
  • Provides an in-app support channel for reservation issues.
  • Applies fraud and moderation controls, including trust tiers and payout holds on disputed transactions.

3. What BoxNear does not do

  • Inspect, weigh, sort, package, or transport items.
  • Guarantee item quality, condition, quantity accuracy, or suitability.
  • Handle deliveries — every transaction is buyer pickup at the seller's location.
  • Provide warranties on items.

4. Seller responsibilities

Sellers are responsible for the accuracy of their listings, the condition of the items, providing safe pickup, complying with the Prohibited Items Policy, collecting and remitting any applicable sales tax on the items themselves, and honoring reservations. See Seller Agreement.

5. Buyer responsibilities

Buyers are responsible for picking up within the stated pickup window, presenting the pickup code, following the seller's on-site instructions, and inspecting items at pickup. See Buyer Agreement.

6. Payments and fees

Payments are made through the platform. BoxNear deducts a 30% platform fee at the time of charge and transfers the seller's portion to the seller's connected Stripe account. See Platform Fee Policy and Seller Payout Policy.

7. Refunds and disputes

Refunds may be issued by the seller or by BoxNear administrators. Stripe chargebacks flow through Stripe's dispute process and put the affected reservation on a payout hold. See Refund Policy and Dispute Resolution.

8. Termination

BoxNear may remove listings, cancel reservations, and suspend accounts that violate our policies. See Suspension & Termination.
